Abstract
Nutrition is a lifelong process that starts in the womb and continues until death. Having said that, nutrition literacy is all of the information, skills, attitude and behaviours required for a healthy and proper nutrition. Due to their role as a guide in the society, health professionals are expected to have correct information on nutrition and literacy. This study was conducted with 92 health professionals working in Sinop province and its districts between May-July 2021 in order to determine the level of nutrition literacy, the factors affecting it and the relationship between these and nutritional habits according to the three-factor eating questionnaire. The data of the study - general characteristics of participants, their anthropometric measurements, and a questionnaire containing questions about their dietary habits - were collected with a nutrition literacy scale and a three-factor eating questionnaire survey. It was determined that 52.2% of the participants were family physicians, 38% of them were nurses and 9.8% of them were health professionals. The nutritional literacy level of all the participant health professionals was found to be sufficient. A significant relationship was found between nutrition knowledge, which is one of the subgroups of nutrition literacy, the gender and the number of meals (p<0,05). No significant relationship was found between nutrition literacy, educational status and occupations (p>0.05). Uncontrolled eating factor was found to be lower in women compared to men, but the difference between them was not significant (p>0.05). The mean of the conscious restraint factor was found to be higher in men and a significant difference was found between the two groups (p<0.05). Health professionals play a key role in raising public awareness of healthy nutrition. It is recommended to support health professionals in a sustainable way with training programs for them to acquire and apply the accurate information about nutrition.
