Abstract
Araştırma grubundaki çocukların %47,5'i kız, %52,5'i erkek, yaş ortalaması 4,54±0,97 idi.
This study was carriedout in a randomized controlled and quasi-experimentalty petodetermine the effect of listening to music and watching cartoons on the fear, anxiety, and physiological parameters in 3-6-year-old children, who were administered inhaler medications with a mask. The universe of the study, which was carriedout in the Pediatric Emergency Clinic of the Department of Pediatrics of a University Hospital in Istanbul, consisted of children admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department with the diagnosis of respiratory system diseases. The sample consisted of a total of 99 children who were administered inhaler medications with a mask including experimental group 1 (33 children who watched a cartoon video), experimental group 2 (33 children listening to music), and control group (33 children administered clinical routines). Data were collected using a 'Data Collection Form', 'Children's Fear Scale', and 'Venham Anxiety Assessment Picture Test'. Of the children in the study group, 47,5% were female, 52.5 % were male, and the meanage was 4.54 ± 0.97. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of gender distributions (p <0.05). The groups were observed to be homogeneous in terms of the age of the children included in the study group, the age of the parents, the educational status of the parents, socio-economic characteristics, medical diagnosis, and the preparation of the child for the procedure (p> 0.05). In the present study, the fear scale scores of 3-6-year-old children administered inhaler medications with a mask, who watched cartoons and listened to music, were significantly lower compared to the scores of children in the control group (p <0.05). The anxiety rating scale scores were significantly lower in the group who listened to music and watched cartoons compared to the scores of the controlgroup (p <0.05). As a result, listening to music and watching cartoons in 3-6 year-old children who were administered inhaler medication with a mask were found to have no effect on physiological parameters and decrease fear and anxiety. The study found no superiority of watching cartoons over listening to music orvice verse in terms of their effect on reducing fear and anxiety in 3-6 year old children who were administered inhaler medications with a mask.
