Abstract
DETERMINING THE PAIN AND ANXIETY LEVELS OF PATIENTS WHO APPLY TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT WITH MECHANICAL TRAUMA COMPLAINTS This study was aimed to determine pain and anxiety levels of patients admitting to emergency service with mechanical trauma complaint. Population examined were over 18 years old, conscious, without any obstructions of hearing or speaking who were admitted with mechanical trauma complaint. 377 patients were surveyed based on volunteering. Surveys included Patient Introduction Form, McGill Pain Questionnaire and Beck Anxiety Inventory and they were taken between dates 15.10.2019 - 31.12.2019. One-Way ANOVA, Mann Whitney U-Test and Kruskal Wallis Test was used to evaluate the data depending on the normal distribution of the data as descriptive statistics. Age distrubiton of the patients were 37,23(±14.68) years and 62,5% were male, 46,7% were collage graduates, 94,2% had social security, 86,2% had blunt trauma, 48% had trauma due to car accidents, 55,4% had injuries on their extremities, 84,4% were applied non-steroid antieflamatory analgesics, 43,8% had soft tissue injuries, 39,3% had extreme pain, 58,6% had superficial pain. Beck Anxiety Inventory total points were 15,50(±9,14) and there was a statistically significant negative correlation between pains and Beck Anxiety Inventory total points (r=-0.132, p=0.010). This study concluded that patients had extreme pains and moderate anxiety symptoms. It was suggested to replicate the study on different populations and samples.
