Abstract
It has been proven many times by researchers that nutrition is directly related to the success of athletes. However, recently, interest in sports nutrition has been increasing rapidly, but information pollution has also become widespread. In this study, nutritional knowledge levels and eating habits of boxing, kickboxing, judo, taekwondo, bjj, muay thai combat athletes and trainers were examined. In the study, the level of knowledge about athlete nutrition was measured using the Sports Nutrition Knowledge Scale (SSBS). The study is a cross-sectional type of research and includes 210 adult amateur and professional athletes and trainers who are actively involved in combat sports in Istanbul. As a result of the research, it was found that individuals who are professionally engaged in combat sports or coaching gave correct answers to 34.8% of the questions about athlete nutrition; It was determined that those who were interested in combat sports as amateurs answered 35.5% of the questions correctly and there was no significant difference between them. It has been determined that the general knowledge of those who have more than 3 years of coaching, who describe their nutrition as very good, who receive nutritional advice and who attend courses/seminars on sports nutrition was higher than others. In general, it has been concluded that the knowledge level of the athletes about nutrition is quite low and even if they have received training on nutrition before, this is insufficient. It is recommended that especially those who are professionally interested in combat sports should receive more training on sports nutrition and be supported by sports nutritionists in individual sports, as in most team sports.
