dc.description.abstract We identify errors in the paper by Franklin (2018 Eur. J. Phys. 39 3) and particularly invalidate his claim that the introduction of the hidden momentum of the magnetic dipole violates the conservation of total momentum. Also, we emphasize that the contribution of the 'hidden momentum' to the force on the magnetic dipole plays an important role in the implementation of the 'center-of energy' theorem of classical electrodynamics, and earlier attempt of Franklin to disprove this theorem are erroneous. en_US
