Abstract
The hairdressing profession is one of the oldest professions in the world. During the work, the hairdressers who stand for a long time, use the hands above the shoulders and frequent repetitive activities cause musculoskeletal symptoms in hairdressers. With this study, it was aimed to compare the musculoskeletal problems, stress, job satisfaction and burnout levels of women's and men's hairdressers. The study was conducted with 78 male cases, 39 of whom were female's hairdressers and 39 of whom were male's hairdressers, in the district of Kadıköy, Istanbul. Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire was used to determine the musculoskeletal system symptoms of the cases, Perceived Stress Scale to measure stress levels, Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire to score job satisfaction and Maslach Burnout Inventory to find burnout levels. Mann Whitney U test, Chi-square Test, Kruskal Wallis Test and Spearman Correlation Test were used to analyze the data. Significance level was accepted as p <0.05. According to our findings, women's hairdressers have more right shoulder musculoskeletal disorders, those with a Body Mass Index of 30 and above have more musculoskeletal symptoms, as the number of years worked in the hairdresser increases, male's hairdressers have more symptoms on their left forearms, and the longer the time worked, the forearm; neck, shoulder and back symptoms of male hairdressers were found to be increased. The increase in daily rest periods, on the forearm and left knee in women's hairdresser employees; It was determined that it reduced neck, shoulder, back and left wrist complaints in male's hairdresser employees, and job satisfaction increased in all hairdresser employees. It was determined that the decrease in the daily rest period increased the perceived stress. It was observed that the increase in the number of years worked in the profession and the duration of daily work decreased job satisfaction and increased emotional exhaustion.
