Examining the Relationship Between Initiation of Romantic Intimacy, Perceived Social Competence, and Early Maladaptive Schemas in Emerging Adulthood
Abstract
Bu araştırmada beliren yetişkinlik döneminde romantik yakınlığı başlatma, algılanan sosyal yetkinlik ve erken dönem uyumsuz şemalar arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini beliren yetişkinlik dönemindeki üniversite öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Bu araştırmaya İstanbul Okan Üniversitesinde Uygulamalı Bilimler Fakültesinde eğitim gören 123 öğrenci, İnsan ve Toplum Bilimleri Fakültesinde eğitim göre 90 öğrenci ve İşletme ve Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesinde eğitim gören 171 öğrenci katılmıştır. Bu araştırmada veri toplamak amacıyla Demografik Bilgi Formu, Romantik Yakınlığı Başlatma Belirleyicileri Ölçeği, Algılanan Sosyal Yetkinlik Ölçeği ve Young Şema Ölçeği- Kısa Form 3 kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulguları, romantik yakınlığı başlatma ve algılanan sosyal yetkinlik değişkenleri arasında pozitif yönde ve anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur. Erken dönem uyumsuz şemalar, şema alanları ile romantik yakınlığı başlatma belirleyicileri ve algılanan sosyal yetkinlik arasında bazı şema alanları açısından negatif yönlü ve anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur.
This study investigates the relationship between initiating romantic intimacy in emerging adulthood, perceived social competence, and early maladaptive schemas. The sample of the study consists of university students in the emerging adulthood stage. A total of 123 students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, 90 students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and 171 students from the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at Istanbul Okan University participated in the research. To collect data, the Demographic Information Form, Romantic Intimacy Initiation Scale, Perceived Social Competence Scale, and Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form 3 were used. The findings of the study revealed significant positive relationships between romantic intimacy initiation and perceived social competence. Negative and significant relationships were found between early maladaptive schemas and certain schema domains, as well as between romantic intimacy initiation determinants and perceived social competence.
