dc.description.abstract An ERP implementation is expensive and risky for all businesses, but it is still more challenging for small businesses, which have particular characteristics. One of the most important factors that decide the success of an ERP is the transition strategy. Different approaches on how to implement or deploy ERP systems exist. The issue to which we try to answer through this contribution is: Which specific key variables factors should be taken into account depending on an ERP implementation strategy for a SME? Many factors demand to be considered when deciding on a go-live strategy. Compared to large enterprises, SMEs differ in a number of inherent characteristics. This paper presents the important factors basis on which a SME organization must choose which transition strategy is right for them and under which circumstance. The study presents findings from a case study also illustrate what should be considered in general characteristics of SMEs. This paper explains the ERP transition strategies and thus aids the ERP implementers to better recognize what type or combination of strategies will suit their system the best. en_US
