Hemşirelerin yaşlı hastalara yönelik tutumları ve duygusal zekâ düzeyleri arasındaki ilişki
Abstract
Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin değerlendirmesinde, IBM SPSS for Windows 22.0 programı ve sayı-yüzdelik hesaplamaları, Man Whitney U testi, Anova testi, Kruskal Wallis testi, t testi ve korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır.
This research was planned to examine the relationship between nurses' attitudes towards elderly patients and emotional intelligence levels. The descriptive study was carried out with nurses working in a university hospital between 1 April and 1 October 2019. The sample of the study is consisted of 350 the nurses who were actively working, who agreed to fill in the questionnaire after the purpose of the study and necessary information were given. The data was collected through 'Nurse Information Form', 'Kogan Attitudes Towards Older People Questionnaire (KAOP)' and 'Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale (EIES)'.In the evaluation of the data obtained the study, IBM SPSS for Windows 22.0 program and number-percentage calculations, Man Whitney U test, Anova test, Kruskal Wallis test, t test and correlation analysis were used. The average age of the nurses participating in the study was 29.95 ± 8.12 years. 72% of them were women, 59.1% were single and 82.9% of them were not living with the elderly. It was determined that 51.1% did not care for elderly patients and 65.1% did not want to work in areas serving elderly patients (geriatrics, nursing home, hospice, etc.). The total score average for the KAOP was 121.30 ± 8.36. It was determined that there was a significant difference between KAOP and age, gender, marital status, and the time that nurses worked (p≤0.05). The EIES total score average was 135.18 ± 21.52. In addition, a significant difference was found between the subdimension of EIES and age, gender, marital status, and long-term work experience (16-20 years) (P<0.05). There was no significant relationship between KAOP and EIES (p> 0.05). As a result of the research, it was determined that the attitudes and emotional intelligence levels of the nurses participating in the study were positive-moderate and there was no significant relationship between the mean scores. It is recommended to develop and implement methods that will enable nurses to increase their emotional intelligence levels and their attitudes towards the elderly positively, to organize in-service training, seminars and certificate programs.
