Article Citation Count: 1An approach to improve the performance of cooperative unmanned vehicle team(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2019) Kıvanç, Ömer CihanIn this paper, a method based on optimal energy management is proposed in order to improve the operational and tactical abilities of collaborative unmanned vehicle teams. Collaborative unmanned systems are used in surveillance, tracking, and military operations. The optimal assignment of these tasks requires cooperation among the vehicles in order to generate a strategy that is efficient with respect to overall mission duration and satisfies all problem constraints. The key motivation behind this paper is to design an unmanned vehicle team that mitigates the disadvantages caused by the structures and characteristics of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which are used in these systems. The design steps of the developed system are explained in three sections in a multidisciplinary fashion. In the first section, the optimal energy consumption profile is estimated by simulating the UAV's flight on a Nvidia Jetson TX2 embedded system, located on the UGV. In the second section, a UAV charger design and implementation is done via development of a TMS320F28335 DSP controlled 65 W inductive wireless power transfer circuit, and in the third section an algorithm that calculates the optimal range and route for the user-selected way points using the state of charge of the UAV's LiPo batteries and a preflight simulation using the simulated annealing method are developed. The experiments are performed in real time with an example scenario and the proposed strategy's suitability and effectiveness are verified for cooperative unmanned vehicle teams.Article Citation Count: 0Can Rectal Indomethacin Be an Alternative Local Anesthetic Method to Intrauterine Lidocaine During Endometrial Biopsy? A Clinical Observational Prospective Study(Turkiye Klinikleri, 2020) Demircan Karadag, Sinem; Karadag, Cihan; Senturk, Mehmet Baki; Turgut, AbdulkadirObjective: Endometrial biopsy is a pain-related gynecological procedure. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of rectal indomethacin and intrauterine lidocaine on pain control during endometrial sampling. Material and Methods: This clinical observational prospective trial was conducted in 120 patients with the complaint of abnormal uterine bleeding who presented at Istanbul Medeniyet University Goztepe Training and Research Hospital, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, between January 2017 and June 2017. Patients were divided into two groups. The rectal group had 64 patients, to whom indomethacin was given as a local anesthetic. The intrauterine group had 56 patients, for whom lidocaine was the local anesthetic used. Endometrial biopsy was performed by using a no. 4 Karman cannula. The primary goal of measurement was pain intensity assessed by a visual analog scale before, during, and 10 minutes after the procedure. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in mean age, body mass index, weight and median levels of gravidity, parity and abortion. The median pain scores of the two groups during and 10 minutes after the procedure were similar (p>0.05). Conclusion: In this study, rectal indomethacin was shown to be equal to intrauterine anesthesia for reducing pain during the endometrial biopsy. Rectal indomethacin may be an alternative drug to relieve pain during gynecological procedures. Further researches with larger numbers of patients are needed to confirm our findings.Article Citation Count: 1Castleman's disease presenting with mechanical intestinal obstruction: A rare case(Turkish Assoc Trauma Emergency Surgery, 2020) Kartal, Abdulcabbar; Atli, Eray; Vural, Gurcan; Ferhatoglu, Murat Ferhat; Filiz, Ali IlkerCastleman's disease (CD) is a lymphoproliferative disorder and the occurrence of CD in the small bowel is rare. In this study, we present one case of CD causing mechanical intestinal obstruction due to involvement of terminal ileum. A 50-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with signs and symptoms of mechanical intestinal obstruction without history previous surgery. After examination and obtaining abdominal computed tomography, diagnosis of mechanical intestinal obstruction was reached and emergency surgery was performed with a median incision. On abdominal exploration a tumor like mass that also held distal small intestine mesentery, and ileocecal valve causing complet intestinal obstruction was observed. Ileocecal resection and ileocolonic anastomosis were performed. CD is a rare entity and should be kept in mind during the differential diagnosis of mechanical intestinal obstruction provided that wall thickening in terminal ileum mimicking mass, and accompanying enlargement mesenteric lymph nodes observed during preoperative investigations or intraoperative exploration.Article Citation Count: 1Clinicopathologic and prognostic features in appendiceal malignancies: does tumor invasiveness matter?(Turkish Surgical Assoc, 2019) Senolu, Kazim; Ferhatoglu, Murat Ferhat; Tihan, DenizObjective: To evaluate the survival rates of appendiceal tumors and prognostic factors affecting survival. Material and Methods: Demographic features, tumor characteristics and pre- and post-operative outcomes of the patients were analyzed retrospectively. The study was performed according to the Helsinki declaration. Results: Twenty-three of the 2840 specimens were investigated prospectively. Median age of the patients was 28 (range: 1-89) years, with a male (n=1730, 60.9%) to female (n=1110, 39.1%) ratio of 1.55. Pediatric group did not present appendiceal malignancy. Carcinoid tumors were reported in 17 (0.59%) and adenocarcinoma was reported in 6 (0.20%) patients. Multivariate analyses of the subtypes showed serosal invasion as an independent risk factor for mucinous and non-mucinous adenocarcinoma (HR: -2.70, 95% CI: 0.006-0.755, p=0.029). Median follow-up time was 48 months (range: 28-61 months) and disease specific survival rates of carcinoid tumors, mucinous- and non-mucinous adenocarcinomas were 36(95% CI 32-40), 30 (95% CI 13-46), 43 (95% CI 30-55) months, respectively (p=0.749). Factors affecting survival in the univariate analyses were advanced tumor stage, serosal invasion and tumor invasion depth. In multivariate analyses, tumor invasion depth was the only independent prognostic factor with poor survival rates in all subtypes of appendiceal malignancies (HR=1.31 (95% CI: 1.01-13.5), p=0.047). Conclusion: Tumor subtype and tumor invasiveness are important risk factors for survival. Besides other treatment modalities, appendectomy still remains the survival benefit with better clinical outcomes.Article Citation Count: 1The Effect of Perceived Benefit on Consumer Based Brand Equity in Online Shopping Context(Ege Univ, Fac Economics & Admin Sciences, 2018) Guclu Sozer, Edin; Civelek, Mustafa EmreThe perception of consumers related to the benefits of using online channels for shopping is an important factor in the determination of their intention to shop online. This study aims to contribute to the current literature by (1) shedding light into the nature and extent of the relationship between perceived benefit and consumer based brand equity in an online context, (2) exploring the relationship between the sub-dimensions of consumer based brand equity, and finally (3) proposing and testing a structural model of these relationships between perceived benefit, consumer based brand equity and its sub-dimensions. The results of the study confirm that consumers' benefit perception related to online shopping leads the way to the formation of consumer based brand equity by affecting brand awareness and mediating the relationship between brand awareness and perceived quality. Another finding of this study is that there is a positive relationship within the sub-dimensions of consumer based brand equity in a sequential structure, which brings consumers from the basic awareness level about the brand to the formation of brand associations, as well as the perception of quality and consequently resulting to support the level of loyalty through brand associations.Review Citation Count: 1Image Processing and Analysis in Health: Advantages, Challenges, Threats and Examples;(AVES, 2020) Ince,O.; Senel,I.K.; Yilmaz,F.With the rapid development of technology, new methods and techniques have begun to provide many services. Historical buildings in the Southeastern Anatolia Region were generally built with local materials such as stone and brick. This situation should be seen as a factor that may cause severe structural damage in buildings located on a regionally active fault line. Within the scope of the study, the materials used in the region were discussed, and a numerical model representing the behavior of the materials against an earthquake that could occur on the fault line was used. Stone, brick and concrete material definitions were made for the prototype of the arch form modeled with SAP2000, and time-history analyses were carried out separately for each material. Concrete material behaviors, frequently used in buildings constructed today, are also included in the analysis for comparison. As a result of the study, it has been observed that local materials do not have sufficient tensile strength against earthquakes compared to concrete material and that the structures may face the risk of collapse in case of seismic movements in the region. © 2024 by the Authors.Article Citation Count: 0Knowledge, attitude and practice of family physicians on antimicrobial therapy for acute respiratory tract infections-a study from istanbul, turkey(Eurasian Society of Family Medicine, 2021) Ozturk,G.Z.; Toprak,D.; Sagsoz,O.; Ardic,C.Aim: We aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude, practice of family physicians regarding an-timicrobial therapy in acute respiratory tract infections. Methods: After receiving the ethics committee approval, the data were collected by online questionnaire from a phone application with 304 physicians. Questions about socio-demographic features and knowledge, attitude, and practices on antibiotics use were asked. Using SPSS, we did the statistical analyses with appropriate procedures. Results: Among the participants, 127 (41.8%) were specialists, and 177 (58.2%) were gen-eral practitioners. The specialists gave correct answers about tonsillopharyngitis and bron-chiolitis significantly more often than the general practitioners did. The antibiotic choices for acute otitis media were not in compliance with the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control, and between the groups, there was no significant difference in terms of initial antibiotic choice. The self-reported antibiotic prescription rate was 25%. In 10%, the most common perceived reason for inappropriate antibiotic prescription was pressure from patients. Conclusion: There remains considerable misuse of antibiotics by primary care physicians for acute respiratory tract infections. Education of physicians and patients regarding acute respiratory tract infections may be needed to lower the rate of inappropriate antibiotic pre-scriptions. © 2021, Eurasian Society of Family Medicine. The gain of a common-source amplifier is set by the load resistor and transistor transconductance which is set proportional to a resistor using a constant-gm bias circuit. The success of constant-gm biasing depends on the accuracy of copying of generated current to the transistor. The leakage current at the transistor gate due to the electrostatic discharge protection diodes prevents the matching of the common source transistor current to the constant-gm circuit current. A low-power replica of the common-source amplifier is used to determine the current error which is minimized using a feedback circuit. Corner simulations indicate that gain variation across PVT reduced to +/- 1.9 dB using the proposed biasing method as opposed to +/- 9.9 dB for traditional biasing method for 1 mu A leakage current. Monte Carlo simulations with process and mismatch indicate that the standard deviation of the gain is reduced to 0.34 dB from 3.57 dB.Article Citation Count: 1Revisiting the Concept of Gender through Psychodrama in University Students(Cukurova Univ, 2021) Parlak, Simel; Camas, Guliz GulcinThe purpose of this study is to raise the awareness among the university students on gender equality/inequality through psychodrama group work. As data collection tools, Perception of Gender Scale (Altinova & Duyan, 2013), socio-demographic information form, a qualitative question and a process analysis conducted after each session were used. Statistical analysis was performed in SPSS 15.0 and it was found that group work with psychodrama method led to a significant increase in the participants' gender perception scores. In the content analysis of the qualitative stage, it is established that the responses of the participants were gathered in equal and not equal themes. In addition to raising awareness of gender roles, the group work motivates the changes these of role patterns.Article Citation Count: 0Significance of USP7 in Predicting Prognosis of Mammary Ductal Adenocarcinoma in the Turkish Population(Istanbul University Press, 2023) Aydemir,E.; Burukcu,D.; Vural,G.; Kivilcim,T.; Sahin,F.Objective: Breast cancer has the highest incidence and mortality rate among women worldwide. This study aims to analyze ubiquitin specific protease 7 (USP7) levels in mammary ductal adenocarcinoma patients in the Turkish population, to identify whether there is a relationship between the levels of USP7 protein and bad prognosis, which is indicated by enlarged tumor size, younger age, and receiving neo-adjuvant treatment. Materials and Methods: In our study, we analyzed USP7 levels by immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining in 38 mammary adenocarcinoma cases in the Turkish population. Corelation analyses were performed to evaluate the distribution of the patients by their age, tumor size, Ki-67 levels, and the status of neo-adjuvant treatment by their USP7 levels. The IHC data concluded that the average age and tumor size are reversely proportional to the USP7 levels, insignificantly. The differences between the levels of USP7 and Ki-67 measurements were found to be statistically insignificant between the groups. Results: Women who received the neo-adjuvant therapy prior to the operation presented much lower amount of USP7 levels when compared to their non-treated counterparts. Conclusions: These findings highlighted that mammary ductal adenocarcinoma patients in the Turkish population present varying USP7 protein levels. Even though the levels of UPS7 are partially insignificant, the presence of USP7 protein might be a prognostic indicator in breast cancer patients in the Turkish population with a larger study set. © 2023, Istanbul University Press. Methods: The English version of the Munich ED-Quest was translated into Turkish using the back-translation technique. Five hundred thirty-four (461 females, 73 males) students studying at the Faculty of Health Sciences in a Turkish university whose age average was 23.0 +/- 3.0 years completed the Munich ED-Quest and the Eating Attitude Test (EAT). One hundred seventy-four of the participants completed the questionnaire again for the test-retest reliability within one week following the first conduct. Results: Factor analysis supported the three-factor structure of the Munich ED-Quest. The total Cronbach's alpha value was 0.940 (95% CI: 0.753-0.936 for the three subscales), and the test-retest reliability was 0.923 (95% CI: 0.755-0.906 for the three subscales) (all p<0.001) for the present time. The positive directional moderate correlation amongst the total points of Munich ED-Quest and EAT points supports the concurrent validity. Conclusion: This research reveals that the Turkish version of Munich ED-Quest is an acceptable, valid, and reliable scale for the investigation of eating disorders among the young Turkish population.
